Kaitlin Solimine and Eva Lou Reading

September 21, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The reading will take place at Berkeley Books of Paris on September 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Eva is currently a resident of Paris and published poet and novelist. Her poems have appeared in L’Almanach Insolite and Movin’. Her collection of short stories, Rapture / D’Extases, takes place across the radically different places she has lived—New York, Hong Kong and Paris—and her novel Quietude is the story of Mia Lin, an opera singer and Taiwanese native who finds acclaim in Paris in Madame Butterfly. With a BA in Comparative Literature from Brown University and MFA in Writing from Columbia University, Eva possesses a prolific understanding of literature across cultures and genres.

Kaitlin, originally from New England and now a San Francisco native, has considered China a second home for two decades thanks to her status as a Harvard-Yenching scholar and U.S. Department of State Fulbright Creative Arts Fellow in China. Her debut Empire of Glass was just Long-Listed for the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize and has received a great reception since its publication June 20. The novel follows the history of a family throughout pre- and post-revolutionary China and into the modern day. Intertwining the poetry of Tang Dynasty poet Han Shan throughout, it reflects Kaitlin’s expansive knowledge of East Asian culture and literature (she studied East Asian Studies at Harvard University). Kaitlin will be in Paris in mid-late September presenting at the European Beat Studies Network’s annual conference at the Chicago University Center.
