The Tuesday Workshop for Writers

September 22, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:30pm on Tuesday, repeating until October 27, 2015

We meet every Tuesday night for six weeks in the 10th arrondissement. We workshop short stories, essays, flash fictions, chapters from novels & memoirs; anything proselike and written in English. Participants submit their work in advance; everyone comes prepared for in-depth discussion. Each participant will workshop two pieces (stories, essays or chapters, 20 pages maximum) over the course of the six week session. Participants will receive in-depth feedback on their work from Shannon as well as from the other workshop members. Acceptance into the workshop is by application. Please see the website for details on how to apply.

Workshop leader Shannon Cain has taught prose writing at the University of Leipzig, the University of Arizona, Gotham Writers’ Workshop, Arizona State University, and most recently in the MFA program at Bennington College. She also leads a free monthly workshop at Shakespeare & Company. Her first book, The Necessity of Certain Behaviors, was published by the University of Pittsburgh Press as the winner of the Drue Heinz Literature Prize, the largest cash award in the U.S. for an unpublished collection of stories. Her work also has been awarded the O. Henry Prize, two Pushcarts, and a fellowship from the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts. In 2014, the French government awarded her a Skills and Talents visa in the arts.
