Paris Lit Up Open Mic – featuring Jennifer K. Dick
Paris Lit Up invites you to join us for our 2nd ever Open Mic Night at Culture Rapide as we celebrate the launch of our special guest Jennifer K. Dick‘s new collection Circuits.
If you would like to read, dance, sing or otherwise express yourself, sign up is open and free to all starting at 19h30ish. We go until we drop. One song/poem/dance per turn. In any language. Or no language at all. For more info, see our open mic poetry page.
Jennifer comments: “The idea for the book came during a dry spell of writing when I got into reading pop sci books. I admired George Johnson’s In the Palace’s of Memory and could not get over the cool weirdness of his chapter titles. Then I started playing around with the language of his popular science, intermingling it with that of memories and recollections, and the two fused, confused each other more and more and slowly over a period of literally years these poems emerged, re-emerged, were rewritten and thought about and felt and then began to be sent out and then there was the book, and then versions of it.”
Jennifer K. Dick is the author of Flourescence (Univ of GA Press, 2004), Retina/Rétine (Estepa Editions, France, w/art by Kate Van Houten) and Enclosures (BlazeVox eBook, 2007).
