PLU Open Mic featuring Sven Hansen-Løve
Sven Hansen-Løve has released a collection of short stories with Paris Lit Up Press! And he decided to launch the work at our open mic! Hurrah! There’ll be a short video-taster coming soon… while we wait, here’s who else joined us onstage:
Nick’s back in town! He told us about his mates. Now we know why he came back. Thomas bathed in beautiful red rain and VIRGIN Amanda delivered a section from her upcoming performance piece. VIRGIN Marie brought her family (this becomes a theme) and sang “True”. PLU VIRGIN Alison, aka Ed’s mum, must’ve bought a lot of bags with her to Paris, and Tim jumped on a tightrope with a telescope and that harmonica thing that fits on the head. Blue Wit was all about Molière (or a Latin word that sounds like him) and Lesbos (not the Greek island) and David Blair got very Halloweeny with a bee suit and golf ball in his Telepathic Film.
Sven kicked off our second round with excerpts from “Tender Neighbors and Other Stories”, his brand spanking new collection of short stories, assisted in English by Ed. Shannon popped up to give an official PLU Recruitment Call, and James, Victor and Evan got the audience’s feet a’tappin with “Wind in my Sails”. Evan stayed onstage to rock with Peter’s “Rocky the Raccoon”, Allison was a ballet dancer, fallen from a tire swing, and David Sirois tuned us into his chamber heart. PLU VIRGIN Simon, aka Ed’s dad, read Alan Ayckbourn, and Yasser treated us to some Spanish hmmph (I don’t know why I wrote “hmmmph” in the book, why did I do that?)” Sven and Ed took to the stage to finish the evening with some x-rated, x-ellently written x-erpts, and we stumbled off into the night looking for some tender neighbours of our own…
An extra special evening at PLU Open Mic with the launch of Sven Hansen-Løve’s new book Tender Neighbors & Other Stories! Be the first to hear and touch this new publication fresh off the PLU presses! For everyone else, sign-up starts at 20h. All forms of expression welcome. Nudity encouraged.
Tender Neighbors & Other Stories – Sven Hansen-Løve
In his first collection of twelve short stories, Sven Hansen-Løve explores the painful isolation and droll absurdity of contemporary life. From the story of a young researcher’s desperate attempt to resist an old flame, to an old uncle’s failed literary scams—from the ghosts of two ancient mariners stealing whiskey in the middle of the night, to a mysteriously violent and politically charged porn flick found in the dark recesses of the net—this debut work takes us on an emotional but often hilarious ride.
The stories included in Tender Neighbors were translated by Simon Rogghe and Jason Francis Mc Gimsey. This independent publication also includes cover art and several hand-drawn illustrations by one of the most poignant figures in Italian comics, Claudio Calia.
