Poets Live – Rod Mengham, Marc Atkins, Dylan Harris, Kate Noakes

Poets Live kicked off their 2014-2105 season last Thursday down in the basement of Paris’ oldest Irish bar, Carr’s Pub. Reading were Rod Mengham, Marc Atkins, Dylan Harris and Kate Noakes. Paris Lit Up was on the case and here below you can get a quick glimpse of some of the poetry and prose that we had the pleasure of hearing.

Rod Mengham teaches English Literature at Cambridge University and is Curator of Works of Art at Jesus College. He has published monographs and edited collections of essays on C19,C20 and C21 fiction and poetry; poetry anthologies Altered State: the New Polish Poetry [ed. Mengham, Pioro, Szymor] (2003), Vanishing Points: New Modernist Poems [ed. Kinsella, Mengham](2005); poetry, including Unsung: New and Selected Poems, (2001), Diving Tower (2006), Parleys and Skirmishes (2007), Bell Book (2012) and The Understory (2014). He has also curated numerous exhibitions, most recently ‘Sculpture in the Close 2013’ [Miroslaw Balka, Theaster Gates, Harland Miller, Damian Ortega, Doris Salcedo].

Marc Atkins, an English artist, has lived and worked and exhibited in London, Rome, New York, Warsaw and Paris. He has presented his work and ideas on the image at the Royal Academy, UEL School of Architecture, Royal College of Art, the New York University, Paris, The Photographers’ Gallery, Université de Liège and the University of Cambridge. His photography books include ‘The Teratologists’, ‘Liquid City’, ‘Faces of Mathematics’, ‘Thirteen’ and ‘Warzsawa’, and his prose poetry books are ‘The Logic of the Stairwell’ and ‘The Prism Walls’. marcatkins.com

Dylan Harris was born in 1957 in the UK, just before the launch of sputnik and lived in Dublin. Where he co-founded & co-operated wurm im. Apfel in Paris he launched Poets Live and corrupt. Kate Noakes has degrees in Geography, and English Literature from Reading University and an MPhil in Creative Writing from the University of Glamorgan. She is an elected member of the Welsh Academy. She has taught creative writing for Oxford University. She blogs at boomslangpoetry.blogspot.com. Her most recent collections are Cape Town from Eyewear Publishing (2012) and I-spy and Shanty (2014) from corrupt press. Tattoo on Crow Street is forthcoming from Parthian in 2015. Her work has appeared in a number of magazines including Poetry Wales, Poetry Ireland Review, Envoi, Magma, Mslexia, Poetry News, Poetry Salzburg Review, The North, Tears in the Fence and The Wolf. It has been anthologised by Cinnamon Press, Leaf Books, the University of London (In Protest), Two Rivers Press (Reading Poetry) and Seren (Tokens for the Foundlings).
