The Rentrée with Paris Lit Up

The Rentrée with Paris Lit Up

Welcome back to the City of Light! Every autumn, Paris’ annual metropolitan cycles bring fresh waves of students, travelers, artists and writers into its fold for the famous rentrée. Now going into our 3rd year, Paris Lit Up’s ever-expanding community has been preparing all summer long for yet another fabulous year packed with readings, workshops, special guests and publications.

First, we’re pleased to announce the foundation of Paris Lit Up Press, our new publishing laboratory. We’re going to try to make as many books, magazines, flyers, posters, videos and records as possible before our money or time runs out – whichever comes first. So if you’re a writer with a Paris connection and have a novel, poetry collection or something you’d like to get out, take a look at the new website and submit your project.

PLU BOOK LOGOLater this month we’ll be celebrating the launch of Paris Lit Up Magazine n°2. Now with 200 full-color pages, a stunning semi-transparent dust jacket and nearly 100 contributors, this independent publication is a true testament to grassroots DIY production. Poetry, short stories, flash fiction, photography, artwork, interviews and even comic books: Paris Lit Up Magazine n°2 has something for every connoisseur of contemporary writing. We’ll be holding the launch party in collaboration with 100 Thousand Poets for Change (details coming soon!) and you can even pre-order a copy here shipping begins on October 1st, 2014.

More importantly, Paris Lit Up Magazine n°2 is also being published under a Creative Commons License. This means that you’ll be able to share, copy, redistribute and use any of the materials for non-commercial purposes – as long as you mention us when you do.

18Of course, our regular Paris Lit Up Open Mic will continue every Thursday at Culture Rapide offering you the chance to strut your stuff onstage, be it poetry, prose, music, dance or theater. Sign-up is free starting at 20h and goes all night long. Every week we also feature a special guest reader, so be sure to check out our community calendar for what pretty face we’ll be bringing you. Plus you’ll not only find info about many other literary events in Paris – including our friends over at Ivy Writers and Poets Live – but also be able to advertise your own events with our new community calendar function.

workshop_iconFor all you workshop junkies out there, our calendar is also chalked full of different opportunities for you to hone your skills. Every Saturday at 16h come to our Drop-in Workshop with your writing – just bring copies of your prose or poetry and a critical eye. If you’ve got writers’ block, be sure to come to our monthly Sunday Writers Workshop hosted by Shakespeare & Company Bookstore at 12h30 with our new host Shannon Cain – for only 5€ she’ll get your ink flowing again with specialized writing prompts and exercises.

As always, Paris Lit Up is 100% non-profit, it is an endeavor that runs on blood, sweat and joy. If you want to share, participate, contribute, make, create or do – if you’ve got ideas, proposals or just want to hang out and have a drink, please get in touch: hassle us on Facebook or Twitter and join the fray with MeetUp for events, parties, readings and random outings.
