TIDES

Saturday, 5 June

…are changing. Today we invite the ecology experts to interactive events. Creativity and conversations.

12h: From drought to deforestation, how might data science address climate change challenges? Research scientist (INRAE) Antoine Leblois discusses the climate change challenges involved in environmental sciences and economics. He invites the audience to ask as many questions as they like!

18h: Discover the short film The People of Waste. After watching the documentary, director and researcher Rémi De Bercegol will be interviewed by Stephanie Papa, followed by questions from the audience. Join us!

THUNDERING FUN

Thursday, 3 June

Enjoy art and words with interactive workshops focused around environmental issues for all ages and English language levels.

15h: Can words heal the Earth? A writing workshop with Matt Jones.

You want to do your part, wordsmith? You’re tired of waiting on governments, on policy makers, on leaders of business. You want to use your gifts to affect change, but the target audience is impenetrable; the demons of sarcasm, apathy and ignorance circle their heads. The growing environmental crisis forces your hand – how do you reach the unreachable?

20h: Writing: Recycling and Recyclages. A writing workshop with Jennifer K. Dick and Lisa Pasold.

This workshop will reconsider the pages of language we automatically trash in our lives, and the objects, debris and linguistic fields they are connected to. Come with pen, paper and a pile of about-to-get-binned junk mail, packaging labels, etc. In any language!

FRESHWATER SOUNDS

Friday, 4 June

Tune in and discover new music and musicians to finish your Friday with a splash!

16h-23h: Freshwater sounds into the night

PERFORMER STORM

Sunday, 6 June

Celebrate with us by joining a live stream of multi-disciplinary artists dedicated to environmental issues.

18h: Performer Storm

What is “Wordtrip Europe” and why?

In 2015, Paris Lit Up organised its first artistic tour around England, a tradition that - until Spring 2020 - has continued and grown in scale. The tour aims to weave and foster connections between artistic communities, with a focus on creativity and outreach. Then came COVID-19 and our 2020 tour was scuppered.

But, while the physical visit is not possible this year, the digital world opens its arms…

As such, instead of working with poet and producer Oliver Cable on an event in London, we’re both staying at home but going further abroad together. We’re off on a roadtrip of sorts, a WORDTRIP around the continent of Europe.

Wordtrip Europe: challenges and goals

The goal of this Wordtrip is to celebrate and document the Arts during this period of confinement. Our bases in the UK (Oliver Cable) and France (Paris Lit Up) make the continent of Europe both logical yet ambitious. Each artist is welcome to express political views: ours is a position of curator, not political enforcer.

That said, our decision of the continent over the EU demonstrates our desire, as organisers, to remain as much an apolitical vessel as possible. Whether you were born in, grew up in, or adopted a country, we welcome work from movement and mixed nationalities - that’s Europe. We are also equally delighted to hear different European languages, although this isn’t obligatory.

Our thanks to every creative mind involved in putting this project together.
