“Be Kind” protocol
PLU Kindness Policy
Statement
We defend free speech - the untrammelled exchange of splendid, bizarre, tragic or revolutionary notions as much as the right to challenge and defend ideas - while embracing the principle that we behave with kindness and consideration to one another regardless of whatever moral high ground we may think we possess.
As members of PLU we are responsible for promoting kindness in the spaces we moderate, both live and online. We are also there in support if anyone feels they, or their work, have been treated inappropriately within our spaces or on broader social media regarding events originating in the PLU sphere. With any incident reported to us, we will do our best to listen to all voices who come willingly to the table and try to resolve the issues. Our belief is that communication, on and off the stage, is the best tool for education and genuine change.
Do not remain anywhere that feels unsafe or upsetting.
Tell the host or another member of the PLU collective as soon as practical.
PLU will pursue progressive steps to address any behaviour deemed offensive. Because PLU believes in individuals resolving differences amicably, if the offending person apologizes to the offended person and the apology is accepted, consequences may be reduced.
a.) A member of the PLU collective will meet privately with the perpetrator, ask them to adhere to the “be kind” principle and apologize to the person affected, if appropriate.
b.).
If the perpetrator repeats the unkindness during the same evening, they will be asked to leave.
c.) If the perpetrator violates the “be kind” principle on a further occasion, the PLU collective will discuss the matter and may issue a formal written warning.
d) Any further incident of serious unkindness may result in a ban from performing for a length of time determined by the PLU collective.
Vive la gentillesse !
Vive le respect des autres et de soi-même!
Et surtout, vive la parole…
